Nauryz is an element of the “Traditional Celebrations, Rituals, Customs, Games, and Traditional Knowledge” domain of Mongolia’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is a relatively under-researched tradition.
Nauryz, also known as Novruz or Nowruz, is a traditional celebration observed on the day marking the beginning of spring according to the solar calendar. It is widely celebrated among Iranian- and Turkic-speaking peoples. As a traditionally nomadic people, the Kazakhs celebrate Nauryz as a festival marking the successful passing of the harsh winter and the arrival of the warm spring season. The celebration symbolizes renewal, prosperity, peace, and the beginning of a new year.
